# About War on Food

> Who we are, why the site is called War on Food, and the editorial standards behind every guide: primary sources, tested food-safety methods, no invented stats.

**War on Food publishes practical, from-scratch food guides with the evidence spelled out.** We cover sourdough, real food and label reading, buying direct from farms, pantry and preserving, homesteading and seed saving, and the bigger food-system forces that decide what reaches your table.

Our tagline is *From scratch, with the facts.* Our mission is simpler still: **know where your food comes from, and who decides.**

## Who we're for

People who bake their own bread and read every label. Parents trying to feed a family well without going broke or getting scared. Homesteaders on acreage and homesteaders on a balcony. Anyone who's tired of corporate spin on one side and influencer scare stories on the other, and would like someone to just lay out what's actually known.

## Why "War on Food"?

People use the phrase for several real things: war and blockades that destroy harvests and ports, a handful of very large companies sitting between farms and shelves, rules that make it hard for small producers to sell, and price shocks driven by fuel, weather and disease. **Those are separate pressures, not one coordinated plot,** and we cover them that way.

There's a quieter story too, and it's the one most of this site is about: people keeping food skills, small farms and seed in their own hands. Every loaf, jar, seed packet and farm-share counts.

## Editorial standards

These are the rules every guide on this site follows.

- **Answer first.** Each guide opens with a straight answer to the question it's named for.
- **Primary sources.** We rely on the FDA, USDA, CDC, EFSA, the National Center for Home Food Preservation, university extension services and peer-reviewed research. Every guide ends with its numbered source list.
- **No invented statistics.** If we can't tie a number to a source, we don't print it. Rules of thumb are labelled as rules of thumb and say where they come from.
- **The evidence, plainly.** On contested topics we split the evidence into *what we know*, *what's debated* and *what isn't supported*. We take the worry behind a question seriously before we check the claim.
- **Food safety isn't a matter of taste.** Canning, egg handling and raw-milk guidance follow USDA and NCHFP-tested methods. We don't publish untested canning shortcuts.
- **Not medical advice.** Our guides are general information. If you're pregnant, managing celiac disease or another condition, or feeding an infant, check with your doctor.
- **No fear-selling, no mockery.** We don't sell supplements or "detox" anything, and we don't sneer at readers, farmers or people who disagree.
- **Dated and maintained.** Every guide shows when it was last updated. We revise when the evidence or the rules change.

## Corrections

Spotted a mistake or an outdated rule? We want to know. Corrections are made in the guide itself, and the "updated" date changes when we do.

## Who runs the site

War on Food is an independent publication operated by AXIA Enterprises. We're not a government website, and we're not affiliated with any food company, farm group or advocacy campaign.
